Do you want to use your software engineering skills to make the world a better place? eBay is looking for a web front end or full stack web engineer to join our charity team and help make eBay the largest platform for charitable giving in the world. In this role you will build and enhance features that connect eBay customers and charities. You will help make it easy for eBay customers to donate funds, buy, and sell items that support good causes. You will be joining a small but passionate and exceptionally talented team of people who are committed to making a real difference and having a lasting impact. You will be working with the latest technologies and frameworks and be called upon to innovate and grow.
What you will do:
Define, design, implement, and test interactive experiences that connect eBay customers and charitable organizations
Segment and design system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including user interface, business functionality, and database access.
Work with other engineers, managers, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles.
Estimate engineering effort; plan implementation, and rollout system changes.
Independently design, code, and test major features, as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex changes.
Share engineering support, release, and on-call responsibilities.
Identify technical areas for improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.
Find and help fix stability/scalability issues in a very time critical environment.
Develop industry and product technical expertise relevant to eBay’s deployment and business model.
Expected to deliver consistently with little supervision.
4+ years of industry experience; A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Strong software design, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Experience building responsive websites is highly desired, working across platforms/browsers is a must.
Experience in Java is a plus; (able to read and modify existing code is a requirement)
Understand design patterns, perform application profiling, debugging and solving DB performance issues.
Experience writing full stack applications in a modern Node.js development environment.
Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX development environment and associated tools like source code management, bug tracking etc.
Have design sense (know how critical design is to the product)
Able to communicate effectively (verbally and written)
Proven results oriented person with a delivery focus in a high velocity, high quality environment.
