Growth Hacking, an experimentation, is a key enabler for innovation at eBay. It plays a critical role in improving comprehensive buying and selling experience. C2C selling team is looking for a data scientist who is innovative and experienced in statistics to help improve in completing the “selling” cycle. Quality experimentation is the key to get complete success.  The successful candidate will have experience with a wide range of statistical techniques and be comfortable with both frequentist and Bayesian inference approaches. We have loads of data to enhance the conversion to stay ahead of e-commerce trends.

Work also involves building production facing user components which heavily rely on data mining and machine learning. The candidate is expected to be able to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences including leadership, quality engineering, software engineering and product as well as program management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes, and data pipelines for large scale data analyses, A/B testing, and related model development.

  • Conduct research on statistical techniques, evaluating applicability to complete sell cycle.

  • With the aid of modeling techniques and statistical software - analyze, extract key insights from model outputs, interpret statistical results, and communicate findings to the stakeholders (product owners)

  • Collaborate closely with others in the larger team to scale algorithms and launch high-availability experimentation services

  • The role is data-intensive and hence the successful candidates should be extremely comfortable working with large sets of data and deliver business insights from the data using analytical techniques.

  • The successful candidates should also be able to offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, and be able to work collaboratively with multiple teams possibly located in different geographies.

  • This team member will have a hands-on approach to data analysis, strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for achieving practical business impact.

Qualifications / Skill Set:

  • PhD/MS Degree in Statistics/Economics/Mathematics or a quantitative field

  • Knowledge of statistical techniques including regression, heavy-tailed distributions, extreme values, bootstrapping / jack-knife, factor analysis, heterogeneous treatment effects, post-stratification, experimental design, frequentist and Bayesian hypothesis testing, and instrumental variables.

  • 2-5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in business consulting, ecommerce or financial services

  • Hands-on experience with SQL/Hive/Spark, data mining, Druid, NumPy, SciPy, Panadas, H2O,

  • Hands-on experience with statistical tools like: Python, Java, Scala, R

  • Experience in web or social analytics is preferred
