The Global Network Services Group within eBay Inc.’s Global Foundation Services (GFS) is responsible for innovation, disruption, and architectural excellence across eBay Inc’s global network infrastructure. The Director will be a strong technologist with solid management skills responsible for leading the Diagnostics, Incident Response, Security and Remediation teams both managing the current deployments but also driving the needed software, machine learning and skillset changes to help manage and monitor eBay’s current and next generation networks.

Responsibilities:

In this role the Director of the Global Network Software Services team is responsible for:

  • Working with a team of software and hardware engineers
  • Leading the requirements gathering process for software development
  • Driving the architecture and design of software
  • Implementing software based on approved architectures and designs
  • Managing software throughout the development lifecycle
  • Managing, guiding and coaching junior members of the team
  • Hiring best of breed talent for the next generation networking systems

Requirements:

  • 10+ years experience developing software
  • 5+ years experience with Unix/Linux
  • MS in CS with software emphasis or equivalent education and experience
  • As a hands-on technologist
    • Experience with the implementation and management of network devices(routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls)
    • A solid understanding of the TCP/IP stack
    • Knowledge of routing protocols
    • Familiarity with OpenFlow and similar technologies
    • Solid working knowledge of Unix/Linux
    • Good understanding of systems engineering
    • Experience with CI/CD
    • Proficiency with Python
    • Proficiency with a source code management system such as git
    • Proficiency with test driven development
    • A solid understanding of and experience with the software development lifecycle
    • Solid network debugging and event correlation skills
