Senior Software Engineer

New York, New York

Our Ads team of data scientists and engineers is building a next gen platform for all advertising and promotional content on eBay's website using state of the art technologies that will allow 100 million buyers and sellers per day to interact with Ads and Promoted listings in new and exciting ways. Our advertising platform used to be no more complex than a WordPress Google AdWords integration. The current team is building a new ads platform with a “Machine learning first “strategy. We solve hard problems with our core search engine and recommendation stack on eBay's 1+ billion items. We’ve come a long way from just Ad banners. For Promoted Listings specifically, the engineer has a unique opportunity to work and learn/grow on search and recommendation tech while literally moving the profit needle for a company that is one of the most highly trafficked sites on the web. It doesn’t get more high profile/high impact or front facing than that.

eBay is actively looking for Full Stack Software Engineers (Back end focus) with excellent coding skills and an AdTech background to help build our native advertising platform (If you don't have a huge amount of Ad tech experience, but you have strong experience with REST architecture/ development and Back end Java/Scala development, then that's cool too!).

While we stand firmly on theoretical and mathematical roots, we see phenomenal value in applying real world, creative and pragmatic solutions.

Required Skills/Background:

  • BS/MS in computer science/engineering from a leading university

  • Minimum 7+ years in software development

  • Strong back end engineering background, ideally using Java and/or Scala

  • Hands on experience with Spring/Akka or other frameworks is a plus

  • Hands on experience with Spark/Hadoop. Use of Cascading and Scalding is a plus.

  • Hands on experience with any streaming platforms like Storm, Kafka, Flink, Beam is a plus

  • Experience with Ad-Tech is a plus
