User identity is at the core of a marketplace business enablement strategy. In addition, user identity is an integral part of Risk and Fraud Management. Our focus is to ensure the integrity of our marketplace for buyers and sellers who transact with us every single day.

We are looking for a dynamic Director of Product for User Identity and Account Security with deep subject matter expertise in this area. This role will oversee Product strategy for this area and will lead a team of hardworking product managers. This is a high visibility role with significant impact over the next 24 months. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background in driving strategy with senior leadership and building consensus, translating strategy into execution plans and using a matrixed organization to meet business goals.

The Identity team owns all systems related to:

  • Account creation and all PII entity attributes and normalization for buyers and sellers (C2C and B2C)

  • Account management, authentication and authorization flows with underlying platform components

  • Account security including device fingerprinting, step-up challenges and account takeover prevention

  • GDPR, CCPA, and all Privacy compliance

Director of Product - User Identity and Account Security

Location: San Jose

What will this person do:

  • Define, lead and drive the long term vision, strategy and execution for User Identity and Account Security leading a team of product managers across a team spanning across Shanghai and Austin/San Jose.

  • Synthesize short and long term product ideas from cross-functional teams across Identity, Risk and Buyer/Seller teams and maintain a groomed, prioritized backlog

  • Drive account security strategy creation, execution, communication and partner management across senior leadership audiences.

  • Collaborate with the Risk, Fraud and eBay’s Core Technology teams to build next-gen account linking systems and its adoption for Risk use cases.

  • Partner closely with Product Analytics team to collect data insights to define and measure improvements

  • Be the voice of and evangelize the benefits of a robust Identity platform and capabilities across the Payments/Risk org and broader eBay organization

  • Monitor industry trends in emerging fraud trends in conjunction with cross-functional partners to identify new product opportunities

  • Participate in and influence evolution of standards across Identity standards bodies

  • Evaluate vendor offerings and build a cost-effective vendor strategy for third-party data

  • Coach, mentor and build a high performance team by providing effective, timely feedback and learning opportunities

Role Requirements - The Basics:

  • Minimum of 15 years of Product Management experience with expertise in all areas listed above one - additional experience in Risk, Fraud, Payments or e-Commerce highly desired.

  • Masters degree, MBA preferred

  • 7+ years of experience as a people manager with demonstrated ability to build and grow a high performance team

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment using a data-driven and analytical approach.

  • Ability to lead multiple complex projects across cross-functional, distributed teams and multiple client groups

  • Experience with product development lifecycle, process flows and working in an agile environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and proven ability to influence senior management (Director, VP+) across different organizations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation of concepts with collateral (slides, white papers and documents) with a clear storyline and narrative

  • Ability to articulate and present everything from early concepts to full product launch plans to your team, as well as to external and executive audiences and defend your POV in the face of disagreement

  • Standout colleague with empathy for our customers (both internal and external) and desire to understand their needs, wants and concerns

  • Ability to influence both Product and Engineering teams outside of their own organization

  • Self-starter with the ability to present/assert/pursue independent ideas and drive them to execution with minimal mentorship; think strategically and execute tactically

  • Active participation in standards bodies and/or publications a huge plus
