The Applied Research group at eBay’s Israel R&D center conducts research in the areas of Data Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Recommendation Systems, Information Retrieval, and Computer Vision to provide solutions for the complex problems encountered in leading one of the world’s largest eCommerce platforms.

Our team, in close cooperation with the engineering and product teams, develops and deploys state of the art technology to the production environment. Our group works in small teams of researchers on projects with a high-impact potential on eBay’s core business. For example, using ML to make eBay’s data more structured, generating high quality content for eBay’s catalog, offering intelligent pricing suggestions, and guiding sellers on how to bid on eBay’s promoted listings.

Our researchers are involved in the the full lifecycle of their products: from understanding the business problem, through conducting the research and finding the right ML approach, to productization and deployment. Moreover, we see great importance in publishing our work in scientific top-tier conferences (WWW, WSDM, SIGIR, CIKM, EMNLP, IJCAI, SIGMOD, VLDB and others).About The Role
In this role you will lead the Structured Data Research team. The team is composed of ~10 Applied Researchers, all with advanced degrees in ML, Computer Science, or closely related fields.
The team is charged with developing the algorithmic solutions designed to address the significant challenges of constructing eBay’s massive (~1B) product catalog and leveraging the catalog in various business scenarios.

The team also contributes to the global research community by participating in program committees, publishing original research, and collaborating with academia.

Your responsibility, in collaboration with your research leadership team, will be take the team to the next level. Help them develop eBay’s next generation of products, explore and implement innovative research ideas.

You will also be expected to facilitate your team members’ personal and professional growth, and to keep the team motivated and engaged.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of industry or academic experience in the field of Applied Machine Learning.
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Proven track record of publication in ML or related conferences.
  • Experience in leading teams of 5-10 researchers.
  • Experience delivering solutions into production environments.
  • M.Sc. in a relevant field.
  • Ph.D. - strong advantage.
