Role:

The eBay Design Research team seeks a seasoned data analyst with a strong engineering background to support the data needs of the team of ~30 researchers, supported by a recruiting team that makes 75-100 user studies possible each year. The analyst must quickly master a deep institutional knowledge of eBay’s systems and data sources spanning across all eBay verticals. This is a key position as nearly all Design Research operations depend on it. Come join us if this challenging and impactful role sounds exciting to you!

The analyst will be dealing with the enterprise data warehouse contained in Hadoop and the Bigdata portal, including, but not limited to, all global user data and behavioral analytics. This analyst must have a strong data engineering background in order to streamline research data tools and dashboards. The right candidate will be able to articulate an engineer’s strategy for finding a balance between competing requirements, such as security, server performance, and research tool UX. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mastery of the skills needed to implement these strategies, from SparkSQL data pulls, to Python data processing, statistical analysis in R, connecting customized Hadoop data marts to Tableau, and connecting our various research tools via API to complete ongoing automated processes like GDPR record deletion.

Professional Qualifications:

Required:

  • General Data Warehousing, Data Modeling, & ETL knowledge

  • Strong SparkSQL coding skills for finding and pulling data from our data warehouse (prefer 5 years)

  • Strong Python processing skills with an emphasis on data processing (e.g. pandas) and repeatable processes

  • Hands on experience with Bigdata/Hadoop & Hadoop-based analytics

  • Strong understanding of enterprise security and tactics for handling sensitive user data on a global scale, particularly when passing PII through an API or transferring between systems

  • Comfort moving data between production and data warehouse servers in SSL via command line code on UNIX

  • Understanding of web analytics and behavioral metrics

  • Understanding of quantitative descriptive statistics

  • Understanding of email CMS systems

Preferred:

  • Experience with Qualtrics and/or Decipher survey platforms

  • Understanding of survey sampling methodology

  • Ability to present complex data in an intuitive way using Tableau

  • Scripting experience in R with an ability to present data visually

  • Basic HTML/CSS for formatting

  • Basic understanding of JavaScript and client-side event-based scripting is a plus

  • Willingness to learn new programming languages to meet goals and objectives
