eBay is looking for an experienced consumer insights researcher with strong consultation background that will help generate insights and drive actions to directly impact eBay’s N.A. business.

Reporting to the Director, North America Consumer Insights, this position will require:

  • Deep understanding of designing, planning, and conducting qualitative and quantitative research,
  • Familiarity with the latest research design techniques,
  • Hard-working translation of business questions into design of research,
  • Strong analytical and strategic competence,
  • And the ability to distill concrete insights from consumer data to deliver clear action-driving recommendations for eBay’s North America senior business teams: cannot stop at the “what”, but need to be able to clearly articulate the “so what” from research.

This individual is a key hire within eBay’s growing Global Consumer Insights team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deep curiosity and understanding of eBay’s NA’s business priorities and how they translate into research needs to guide decision making.
  • Research agency management: Ability to create strong research briefs for internal and external research partners so that research produces desired insight outcomes.
  • Analysis:
  • Cull and analyze data from interviews, focus groups, questionnaires, or other qualitative or quantitative research.
  • Understand statistical analysis of survey and research results.
  • Monitor the performance of research surveys and report the results to relevant partners.
  • Storytelling:
  • Build compelling insights from completed research and analysis.
  • Author executive level reports and make informed recommendations to key partners and influencers that lead to action.
  • Take the initiative to broadly communicate findings and identify potential roadblocks to enable knowledge transfer across teams and business groups.
  • Relationship building & Business impact:
  • Build strong relationships with a diverse set of cross-functional business partners to understand their challenges and priorities, define research roadmap, and drive actions through insight delivery.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on specific focused categories to group managers and directors, which results in implementation or adoption of methodologies and a positive business impact.
  • Tailored-request analysis on trends, strategies, and specialist areas and synthesizes and interprets multiple data sources, including new or unused sources, which results in the availability of rich, complete data, improved decision making, and positive business impact.

Required Experience:

  • 7-10 years of related work experience in market research and/or consumer insights with a particular focus on consumer and retail categories.
  • Strong background in conducting survey sessions, analyzing and organization information, and data collection.
  • A thorough knowledge of research procedures and standard methodologies.
  • Proven ability to distill actionable insights from complex data and explain findings to clients in a digestible and compelling manner.
  • Demonstrable experience handling both primary and secondary research.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and experience with senior level client presentations and meetings.
  • Collaborative approach that allows candidate to work across a global organization to build a plan, get alignment, and implement it.
  • Ability to operate independently and build out new programs, frameworks and standard methodology approaches.
  • Expertise in working efficiently and effectively in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in market research, statistics, economics or related field highly desirable.

About the Position:

  • The position is a full-time role within the Global Consumer Insights organization.
  • Location is flexible for the right individual and may require occasional travel to the San Francisco Bay area and/or other locations as needed.
