About IAC: India Analytics Center (IAC) in Bangalore is the largest global analytics center of excellence for eBay outside its San Jose, CA headquarters. The center has diverse functions and teams ranging from Analytics and Reporting Excellence teams on Buyer Experience, Managed Marketplaces (Trust), Seller & Verticals, Business Performance, Cross-Border trade, Mobile Commerce, and Global Financial Planning. We partner closely with Business Unit (P&L) teams, Product Managers, Web Developers, and various other functions on a daily basis to enable data-backed business decisions, help identify investment opportunities, evaluate investment value and drive recommendations aimed at optimizing top-line (growth) and bottom-line (profitability) results while improving our buyer and seller experiences.

Role Overview: We are currently looking for a “Manager, Business Analytics” to support us in within our “Vertical Analytics” team. She/he will largely operate as an individual contributor (IC) and partner with the cross-functional teams to meet their analytic needs and conduct extensive analyses of eBay's rich data, generating & communicating insights that guide the project roadmap. She/he will also grow into the role of a Functional Lead, while mentoring and leading junior analysts. In the process, this person will develop a deep understanding of eBay Marketplaces and site functionality, further strengthen their analytic, leadership, and presentation skills, and gain exposure to a wide variety of functional teams within eBay. The role is data and analytically intensive.

Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will possess strong intellectual curiosity and a passion for achieving practical business impact. Skills in problem definition, rigorous analysis, and recommendation development will also be critical. Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative, and integrity.

Additional requirements: Travel to US or Europe offices of eBay 1-2 times a year is required as part of the role. Some flexibility also required to attend telephone or video conference meetings in late evenings during some days of the week with global partners.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Operate as a functional manager, largely as an individual contributor on problems spanning across Vertical (inventory) and business analytics to influence decision-making and help shape the Vertical strategy & roadmap
  • Independently execute analysis while becoming a subject-matter expert via the many performance measurements that enable the B/U (partners) to drive their initiatives
  • Generate actionable analytical insights, evaluate existing business understanding and find opportunities for improvements that enable partner teams to make impactful data-backed decisions
  • Work cross-functionally to tie Analytics output to the work from other teams
  • Proactively share analysis and insights with executive leadership to guide decisions, & the rest of the team to promote ongoing learning and development
  • Supervise and report the critical metrics to the leadership team and other partners such as finance
  • Support, coach & mentor junior analysts by guiding them in their analyses

Desired Qualifications:

  • B.Tech./B.E./B.S./B.A. degree (ideally in a quantitative field such in Engineering, Statistics, Applied Econometrics, Math, Physics, Computer Science, other related Core Sciences or equivalent) with 6+ years of experience in analytics and exposure to varied functions
  • OR Master’s degree in similar field / MBA with 4+ years of experience in analytics with exposure to varied functions.
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint skills and database query skills (e.g., Teradata SQL, SparkSQL); and an understanding of data warehouse architecture
  • Experience with Hadoop/Hive/Python/R/R-Shiny and Tableau, ideally in web analytics or at a leading management consulting, financial services, or marketing company.
  • Strong understanding of inferential statistics & related methodologies – Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Regression, Classification
  • A plus if the candidate has real-world problem-solving experience with Web analytics, Data Science and Machine Learning methods – Classification & Regression techniques
  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a direct partner to mid-to-high-level executives within an organization, with proven results and exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytic impact.
  • Effective project leader who understands business problems and current business trends, responsible for improving financial and business performance.
