NPD Identity Engineering Position Description

  • Deliver Identity and Personalization systems and services for the new products development (NPD) team at eBay

  • Create, evolve, and maintain designs, specifications, and code that integrates with other NPD engineering teams’ systems

    • Integrate with the eBay ShopBot chat system for conversational commerce

    • Integrate with the mobile / mobile web / web systems launching in new eBay markets (China, S. America)

    • Integrate and inter-operate with other NPD products and services as they evolve

  • Deliver data, services, software, and supporting systems (e.g. experimentation / analytics) that increase the conversion, efficiency, engagement, and delight of eBay customers

  • Improve the shop, share, browse, chat, search, and notification subsystems of NPD products and services

  • Surface new, useful, predictive features, behaviors, or data about current and prospective NPD buyers that improve our systems:

    • demographics data,

    • psychographics data,

    • behavior data & patterns,

    • social data

    • merchandise aspects

    • cohort, ensemble analysis

    • derived, deep-learned features

  • Develop predictive models that improve our click-through prediction and our conversion prediction (classifiers, online models, reinforcement learning models, deep learning models)

  • Engineer and ship the production versions of these models at high quality, availability, reliability, effectiveness

  • Measure and report experimentation, analytics, and offline analysis for these purposes

  • Collaborate with other NPD teams in an “open source” model of shared code repos similar to public Internet fork / pull-request open source collaboration

  • Communicate software design / architecture effectively; improve others’ designs and code with thoughtful, respectful comments and discussions in appropriate channels (slack, meetings, design docs, code repos)

  • Document the software effectively as measured by less maintenance effort needed for effective reuse of code

  • Research and scout others’ software, including internal and external open source for effective reuse, scope reduction and higher quality code delivery

  • Effectively engineer secure, reliable, scalable, flexible microservices in containers that adhere to NPD standards, requirements, conventions, and engineering practices

  • Continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of our software, our systems, and our engineering practices

  • As appropriate manage other engineers to accomplish these objectives
