About the team:
We are passionate about connecting buyers and sellers around the world and creating opportunities through commerce and technology. Our responsibilities include all aspects of eBay’s business in the EMEA region including eBay’s operations in major European markets -- UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain -- as well as driving growth in emerging markets such as Turkey.
eBay classifieds group is embarking on a journey to build out its global technology platform serving its portfolio of global brands. We are looking for an experience lead engineer that is passionate about developing world-class applications, lives and breathes agile and is used to working with high data volumes.
Within our global Product & Technology team we’re building a new Agile squad, which will be responsible for developing a new capability to support all our brands across the world. This is a chance for everyone to develop something new – from scratch based on the latest technology available.
As Senior Back End Software Engineer in this new squad, you will be a key team member in development and design of new projects. You will be coaching junior and medior developers (guide them through architecture and procedures, be a mentor helping with skills development). Besides this you will:
- think with your colleagues about architecture decisions and help work them out;
- help to continuously improve development work in all areas (coding, processes, tools, testing, etc.);
- be a technical sparring partner for the organization to help the business create efficient and effective requirements;
- work in an international environment supporting our brands across the worldwide eBay Classifieds Group.
What we expect from you:
A person who has extensive experience in events processing applications for very large volumes of data, with at least 6+ years of full-time employment. We expect the right person to be an expert in software engineering and have good knowledge of what it means to work with large and/or distributed systems.
We also believe that to be a well-rounded developer, one needs experience with more than just one programming language. Furthermore, we need someone who lives and breathes Agile development, can focus on delivering, and wants to take a leading role in improving how we work.
Of course you know:
- Java development
- Unix / Linux
- Test driven development
- Agile methodologies and affinity for e-Commerce
- You have a degree in Computer Sciences or comparable topic.
