About our team

eBay’s Marketing Technologies team is responsible to “connect” with millions of eBay customers, using ML-based personalized messages, on various digital channels such as onsite, email, push notification, Display Ads, Paid Social… and to listen to their reactions across all digital touchpoints. We challenge the status quo to ensure that our brand and our partner’s brands are present in the moments that matter to their customers. We deliver beautifully designed, relevant, personalized messages to our customers in the right channel and at the right time.

Our team is responsible for the content authoring, rendering and delivery side of the ecosystem. Our platform, tools and services are built on an asynchronous microservices-based architecture and all our services work in unison to achieve the desired goal of our customers. The platform has wider adoption among various domains within eBay and could be considered the eBay de facto marketing communication platform.

Responsibilities

We expect the candidate to work with our high-performing agile teams, product owner and agile team leads. The responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:

  • Define vision and device short term/long term strategy for the Product.
  • Motivate the team through the defined inspiring “Vision” and ‘Values’ of the product.
  • Understand customer and business context within growth org in particular and eBay in general.
  • Clearly articulate business needs, use cases and platform capabilities to various stakeholders.
  • Communicate, on behalf of the team, about the product successes, lessons learnt, and build executive/org support and engagement.
  • Deeply understand existing systems and services to Identify product-platform fit or gaps.
  • Manage expectation with both internal and external teams.
  • Prioritize business needs/tasks along with the run time business (RTB) tasks ruthlessly.
  • Maintain a clean backlog of platform features/improvements that can be enabled over the time.
  • Educate users to adopt and if required, think differently from the past to accelerate adoption.
  • Develop videos, help, pitch material, feature documentation to get more things self-serve and educational material to accelerate migration.
  • Pull together a clear roadmap on platform features/improvements.
  • Develop functional specifications, UI designs, technical requirements, as needed.

Requirements

  • You should have worked as a Product Owner or Program Manager in large scale distributed systems, ad tech, marketing tech or similar.
  • You are able to stay technical with a developer/scientist audience.
  • You pay attention to detail.
  • You have good oral and written communication skills - Should be able to talk to customers giving them confidence about tools/platform and win them over.
  • You have good conflict resolution/negotiation skills.
  • You have customer empathy and balance that with platform thinking.
  • You have keen business sense to ensure that you are playing for eBay longer term interests.
  • You should have start-up mentality with growth mindset.
  • You are rather a doer than a manager.
  • You have formal education in the field of software with at least to bachelor’s level degree or equivalent experience.
  • You must have experience dealing with medium to large complex projects (5 people x 10 months).
