About the team:

The Competitive Strategy & Intelligence team empowers the Americas business with deep understanding of the competitive landscape. This team partners with key leaders in the business, finance and product teams across eBay to identify, synthesize and quantify, market opportunity at a detailed level across multiple business verticals. The team spans skill sets across market research, strategy, analytics and user experience. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Competitive Strategy, this Manager will require strong analytical and strategic skillsets, can distill measurable insights from large amounts of data, and convey compelling storylines to influence business strategies for eBay’s senior leadership team. This individual is a key hire within a growing team and will be accountable for crafting and implementing a series of research initiatives that help eBay better understand where to play, how to win, and how to optimize business strategy.

We are looking to gain a new member who is motivated to learn competitive strategy and analytics. This individual will need to collect and analyze loads of industry and competitor data to distill into measurable insights for our commercial categories and marketing teams. You’ll use all this intel to drive successful sales plays, with a reputation for delivering simple and compelling insights with a sense of integrity and timeliness. You have a love for people, a brain for analysis, and a roll-up-your-sleeves demeanor!

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Partner with the business units/verticals to identify & observe competitive trends analyzing shifts in key performance indicators including market size/share while identifying tangible action items to be summarized and presented to the GM’s and executives regularly.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative studies to guide how to prioritize and win in key market segments learning from our core competitors go to market strategies
  • Ability to provide deep user experience, customer purchasing patterns, and site experience analysis across a broad set of online and app experiences providing strategic recommendations for site improvements and features to consider
  • Analyze research data to build compelling, insightful storylines that illuminate opportunities and threats for the business, ability to go deep into financial statements and reports to understand key trends and build out models supporting recommendations
  • Develop and lead vendor partnerships within the technology and competitor insights landscape, working with both new and established players in the market
  • Author executive level reports and make informed recommendations to key partners and influencers on a regular cadence teasing out key measurable strategy recommendations
  • Lead multiple ongoing projects in an organized manner including the development of clear project plans in partnership with senior leaders across the organization, and developing and delivering strategic insights in a timely manner
  • Able to develop strong professional relationships and influence others in a matrixed organization. This hire will engage and influence with various leaders and cross functional partners throughout the organization to move projects forward.
  • Ability to extract insights from data and translate that into clear, measurable recommendations. Stellar analytical skills, attention to detail and experience crafting/visualizing business strategy, and experience in manipulating large data sets/ interpreting data trends.

What you need to succeed:

  • 5+ years of work experience in strategy, competitive intelligence, analytics roles
  • 2+ years of experience at well reputed management consulting firm or within an equivalent strategy group
  • Experience operating in a digital/consumer internet; prior understanding of digital operational and marketing experience
  • Record of leading innovative change with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, while staying focused on the big picture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presence in front of senior leaders
  • Balances relationships while pushing project timelines forward– ensuring that debates and discussions not only lead to good outcomes for all involved, but also set a positive tone for multi-functional teams
  • Well reputed undergraduate degree required and MBA a plus
