Role Overview:

The UK Monetisation team looks after improving long-term value creation for the company across buyers, sellers and partners. The Head of Monetisation will own initiatives in pricing, promotions, and Financial Services for which they will drive the strategy and coordinate the implementation. These decisions touch on some of the largest and most sophisticated elements of the company's strategy, driving financial performance (top and bottom line) and defining the relationships eBay has with its customers and partners representing the firm’s largest source of competitive advantage.

The candidate in this role will report into the UK Monetisation Director and the team sits within UK Operations. The successful candidate will need to operate cross-functionally in the day-to-day workings of the eBay’s UK business. Additionally, at the global level it will be essential to collaborate efficiently with the other major country leads in primarily USA and Germany to develop global initiatives and to build out promo tools & infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Monetisation will work across the full range of Monetisation activities, including core pricing, promotions and financial services.

  • Revenue and Pricing management: Optimize eBay’s business growth by evolving commercial terms intelligently and effectively to hit income financial commitments.

  • Identify effective commercial levers to deliver short and long-term improvement in revenue and Operating income

  • Define the strategy for pricing effectively for value across customer segments and categories

  • Based on customer needs and value delivered define the most efficient way to gate and price services for sellers

  • Use commercial terms as a lever to incentivise the highest possible levels of buyer service from sellers

  • Identify monetisation options on the Buyer side

  • Promotion Strategy: Develop a promotional strategy for the business that is aligned with the core pricing principles and drives growth while optimising revenue

  • Financial Services: Continue developing the Financial Services suite and other revenue-generating services for the eBay Seller and Buyer community

  • Relationship and change management with customers: Deliver Revenue Management policies and change efficiently to sellers and integrate optimally with other seller initiatives to strengthen eBay’s relationships with its sellers.

  • Regional and global partnership: collaboratively partner with the Monetisation leads in USA and Germany on global initiatives and to build out tools & infrastructure.

  • Partner and stakeholder management: collaborate closely with the relevant leads in the B2C and C2C UK seller teams to align on promotion plans

  • Operational excellence: project manage marketing, finance, legal, customer service and analytics teams so that promos are accurately implemented as designed

  • Product roadmap coordination: Coordinate with other regional teams on product needs for promo and collaborate closely with the central product teams to ensure new tools and capability improvements that will address customer needs are delivered

Experience:

Potential candidates will have fulfilled or had exposure to a Pricing or Revenue management role at some point but will not necessarily be in this type of role now. They will however, demonstrate versatility in their career. This may be through having held variety of functional roles or through a period in consulting. Given the nature of eBay’s model, an ideal candidate will have experience of a marketplace, or retail environment with an understanding of pricing in a C2C and B2C context.

  • Evidence of very strong intellectual ability – MBA, PhD or similar; top tier strategy consulting or similar environment experience Exceptional commercial and analytical thinking skills, which may come through a mix of experience in consulting and industry

  • Strength in analysing information and leading detailed analytical modelling

  • Ability to merge qualitative and strategic perspectives with analytics to create balanced recommendations

  • Ability to lead delivery in a fast-changing, multi-national cross functional business

  • Whilst analytical in thinking, a consistent track record in a lean, matrixed environment in specific experience in delivering to multiple executive partners, across functions/geographies

  • Energetic, flexible, and comfortable with leading through ambiguity in a trust-based, human way

  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills with peers and senior partners across multiple functions and geographies

  • Great partner management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to present proposals that incorporate the customer impact as well as the commercial impact
