Gumtree is the UK’s #1 classifieds website and app, used by 1 in 3 adults every month. With over 1.5 million ads live on the site at any time, it’s the perfect place to buy or sell second-hand goods and cars. You can also find ads for a wide range of jobs, properties to rent and buy, professional services, community events and more. 33% of the UK digital population use Gumtree every month, and the Gumtree smartphone app has been downloaded over 16 million times.

As the Head of Verticals, you will be accountable for formulating and executing the business to consumer (b2c) vertical sales strategy for Recruitment, Property & Services commercial revenue channels. To lead a hardworking team (currently circa 30 people) in a customer centric manner.

Classifieds Sales & Go To Market Strategy:

  • Develops outstanding understanding of online classifieds verticals for Recruitment, Property and Services.

  • Explicitly link Sales Strategy and team objectives to Corporate vision and goals.

  • Aligns resource with opportunity to gain the maximum value of our proposition.

  • Identifies new sales and revenue opportunities through continuous improvement and innovation (packages, customer lifecycles, business development, partnerships, product, use of technology).

  • Supervises the major client accounts, providing support to others where needed.

Financial / Operational Management:

  • Financial planning & management of costs / revenues.

  • Set and communicates quarterly objectives with sales management team that align with company goals.

  • Commits to crafting the B2C vertical product development road map.

  • Project owns the launch of new revenue initiatives that capitalise on new market opportunities or technical developments.

Client Management:

  • Supports Sales Managers where required (e.g. client negotiations, relationship building, and solution provision).

  • Total responsibility for CLM for each of the respective verticals.

Revenues:

  • Delivers against results-oriented revenue goals in a customer focused manner.

  • Accurately forecasts and leads revenue pipelines across multiple verticals, revenues channels and teams.

  • Actively participates in the financial planning for annual budgeting and three year planning.

  • Adheres to cost budgets and controls multiple sales related expenditure lines.

Leadership:

  • Provides a structured sales environment for the team.

  • Acts as role model for all as a sales leader supporting our core values and behaviours.

  • Works across the other business units e.g. Marketing, IT, Finance, Product & Development teams efficiently.

  • Clearly communicates company vision, expectations, roles and responsibilities to keep the wider team informed and engaged

  • Industry networking (represent the eBay Classified brand at relevant industry events) and client partnership development.

  • Is an inspiring leader and active participant in relevant external forums.

People Management:

  • Define and communicate clear measurable goals.

  • Manages the performance and mentoring of team members.

  • Coaches and develops direct reports – identifying development needs and utilising available resources to develop individuals.

  • Coordinates appraisal process and development planning for all members of their teams.

  • Openly rewards and recognises the efforts of others.

  • Fosters an open collaborative approach that demonstrates best practice.

  • Develops clear succession planning through the Sales operation.
