The Principal Architect is a senior technologist and an inspiring leader who oversees eBay’s Marketing architecture and design, drives the technology vision, roadmap and helps make build vs buy decisions.

We are looking for an experienced technical leader to help to build the world’s best digital marketing platform. Working in close partnership with engineering leaders across the marketing channels, you will lead the architecture roadmap. You will be an evangelist for the latest and most relevant technologies and software patterns and best practices, you will mentor leaders of the teams that define and implement software, tools, and processes to run our services.

Your goal will be to drive building the next generation platform, leveraging best of breed technologies and enabling scale to support our growing business. You possess experience in delivering large-scale enterprise solutions with a proven track record of motivating cohesion within technical teams that are innovative, delivery focused, and highly effective.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Marketing Tech Principal Architect, you will drive technical innovation across the marketing organization. You will apply your expertise in building real-time, highly-scalable solutions for real-world problems. You will influence and mentor engineers across the organization and ensure that the highest coding principles and standards are adopted. You will play a key role in the evolution of our next generation platform and marketing products in a challenging environment: Large-scale computing, Distributed systems, Web applications, Data mining, Scalability, Security, and Algorithms to name a few. You’ll strive for simplicity, and demonstrate upleveled thinking, strong judgment and clear decision-making.

  • Architect solutions with scalability, availability and performance as cornerstones of the architecture, considering resiliency, across distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers

  • Design and architect solutions to build and extend our digital marketing platform

  • Translate the desired business outcome to technical requirements and solutions that meet operational and business needs

  • Document product requirements and dependencies, with clear diagrams describing processes and boundary interactions

  • Produce product architecture roadmaps, planning solutions and inter-domain dependency alignment strategies related to managing ongoing planning processes

  • Guide the overall design and architecture of our full stack

  • Identify new patterns and practices, technologies and techniques that improve our overall platform

  • Develop proofs of concept, through practical examples showing business value and technological sufficiency

  • Mentor members of the development team to help build effective engineering practices

  • Highly effective communication across the organization, to include all functions of the architecture, from business leadership, through to technology

  • Promote a data driven software development culture of quality, collaboration, rapid delivery and business impact

  • Provide oversight of coding standards, engineering excellence and operations best practices

Requirements:

  • (10 years+) Significant development experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science.

  • Proven track record in the successful delivery of rolling out large scale enterprise wide solutions, from design to production

  • Experience and comfort working with ambiguity in a complex environment with the ability to adapt to changing business needs

  • Strong customer focus, excellent communication and relationship building skills.

  • Expert in web services and web technology

  • Knowledge of programming languages including Java, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, and Vanilla JavaScript

  • Knowledge in technologies such as RESTful APIs, Hadoop, Spark, SQL, database design, microservices

  • Familiar with Linux & Windows applications

Desirable:

  • Innovative, creative, flexible, detail oriented and self-directed

  • Ease in designing and writing high-performance, reliable, and maintainable code

  • Proven experience working with Agile software development methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban, XP, etc)

  • Experience in marketing channels including Email, SEM, Display and Social
