THE ROLE

The Global Payments organization at eBay powers commerce between millions of buyers and sellers by enabling efficient and seamless payments experiences across 190 markets globally, while fueling the company’s business growth. We are looking for a strategic, entrepreneurial business development and partnerships leader with experience negotiating and formalizing partnership agreements, strong product sense, and experience working with cross-functional teams to manage and grow our payments business globally. This person will be responsible for leading Global Payments’ strategic partner relationships, managing ongoing initiatives, identifying new opportunities, leading cross-functional teams to evaluate and execute on product and business initiatives, and executing new partnering agreements. This is a high impact and high visibility people leadership role that will interface directly with internal and partner executives and their teams to drive the growth of the payments business in exciting new areas to enable and advance eBay’s enterprise strategy.  

The Sr. Director, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, Global Payments will have a demonstrated track record of leading large complex partnerships and joint ventures at a global scale, leveraging excellent business insight and strategic prowess. This leader is well-networked with established relationships within the payments and consumer technology space, evangelizing eBay and creating interest. Leading a high-impact team, this leader will serve as strategic advisor to eBay’s executive leadership team on all aspects of the strategic Payment Partnerships process. This leader will report to the VP, Global Payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of partnership strategies that align with product and business goals and create the partner management framework to implement and manage these strategies

  • Source, structure, and negotiate deals with existing and new partners to drive the growth of the Global Payments business while unlocking value for our buyers and sellers; Own all aspects of the partnership deal, including identification, qualification, initial rationale/pitch, evaluation and financial analysis, closing activities, and post-close monitoring

  • Manage and grow our existing portfolio of partnerships (incl. digital wallets, networks, issuers, other FIs); Analyze, influence, and communicate key metrics to support ongoing partnership management and identify new opportunities to address gaps or create net new business opportunities 

  • Understand partners’ strategic priorities and internal roadmaps; Communicate insights and strategic recommendations to eBay’s Global Payments team and other key internal stakeholders

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Strategy, Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Finance, Markets etc) to identify and implement growth opportunities

  • Build and evangelize eBay’s Global Payments business externally and internally

  • Lead, nurture, and grow a talented and high-performing team

Job Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience in partnerships, business development, or similar role ideally at a payments/fintech/ecommerce company, leading platform and product partnerships efforts

  • A strong track of defining and executing high impact partnership strategies to build innovative product experiences. Broad and deep experience establishing and managing large and complex partnerships

  • Strong commercial and product instincts and the ability to prioritize and guide cross-functional teams through competing demands and to address complex problems

  • Technical acumen and ability to understand product strategy and use this understanding to define requirements for scaling products and operations through partnerships

  • Strategic thinker who serves as thought leader and partner, with a growth mindset

  • Excellent negotiation capabilities, with a track record of closing deals that unlock value

  • Experience leading and inspiring a diverse, high performing team

  • Ability to develop a strong point of view combined with the openness to evolving that view based on new data; Collaborative team player who is also an independent thinker

  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, in both verbal and written form, and ability to influence stakeholders across a wide variety of functions

  • Heavily networked, with strong relationships within payments/fintech and consumer technology communities

  • MBA or other advanced degree from a top tier university preferred, not required
