eBay Infrastructure Engineering and Operation is looking for a hands-on technical manager and leader to manage Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team. The ideal candidate is someone who’s hands-on on Container Orchestration Platform such as Kubernetes to design and implement our large scale, container orchestration and management environment. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building large, scalable infrastructure, and is a creative thinker, problem solver, teacher, learner, and a fantastic manager of people. You will be leading the team developing next generation Cloud Platform to manage eBay’s fleet of data center.

You will be leveraging your expert technical knowledge and past implementation experience in designing and building our new, automated container orchestration platform based on industry standard open-source system such as Kubernetes, Mesosphere DCOS, RedHat Openshift.

Your role will be to architect and implement an end-to-end container management system. You will need excellent understanding of infrastructure operations as well as tools and patterns used in an agile development, continuous delivery environment. You will be promoting benefits of application containerization and infrastructure management automation across the organization and will need to confidently engage and present to application developers, infrastructure managers and senior business sponsors alike.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop next generation cloud platforms to manage eBay Data Center infrastructure engineering to support hundred thousands of servers/application workloads

  • Develop capabilities and extension of Kubernetes implementation at eBay

  • Lead the customer facing Infrastructure Engineering and Operations with high availability and reliability, superior performance, and 24x7 support.

  • Lead & Deliver operational excellence with focus on the service management and DevOps approach to achieve agility, speed, scale and efficiency.

  • Create a culture of accountability, quality, agility and high performance that will foster the attraction, development and retention of excellent product and technical talent.

  • Automation of infrastructure services and system administration task into self-remediated platform/systems.

  • Implement a Service Monitoring capability to proactively address the operational issues for all customer facing infrastructure assets

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching for all staff and foster a culture of accountability, innovation and team building.

  • Contribute to architecture and roadmap planning. Developing a strategy to secure long-term platform stability and world-class architecture.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or MS or degree in computer science, software engineering, or related fields

  • 8+ years software development experience with a distinguished track record developing and running/operating large distributed systems

  • 4+ years of leadership and infrastructure experience leading fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams

  • Experience in managing complex projects that require a deep understanding of the application logic and dependencies, ability to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements

  • Knowledge of best software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, test driven development, code reviews, source and configuration management, continuous integration and deployment, testing, and operations

  • Good understanding of IaaS, PaaS and virtualization – service oriented architecture designed around the delivery of Infrastructure components as a service

  • Strong knowledge of all layers of the TCP/IP stack, networking, security and common Internet services/protocols such as SMTP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, HTTP

  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: C/C++, Shell Scripting, Perl/Python, Java, Scala or Golang highly desirable

  • Extensive hands-on engineering and implementation knowledge of leading container orchestration and infrastructure management tools (Kubernetes, Mesosphere DCOS, RedHat Openshift)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of public cloud providers (Amazon AWS/EC2, Google Cloud) and their technology offering, APIs and integration points

  • Core competency and proficiency in a modern, Cloud native APIs, development languages and frameworks (Python/Shells, Golang, Java, and deep knowledge of OS Kernels)

  • Experience with Agile development tools (Jira/Rally, Git/perforce, Maven, etc)

  • Good understanding of hardware, operating system, virtualization platforms (RedHat Linux/Ubuntu, Docker, Core OS/Atomic/LinuxKit)

  • Interpersonal and leadership skills to engage and motivate a highly technical global team (US and China)
