Senior Manager, NA Communications

  • Help define and drive eBay’s consumer narrative and value proposition – with particular focus on a key vertical.
  • Develop strategies that extend beyond a typical PR function and increase consideration of eBay as a differentiated shopping destination.
  • Implement innovative programming that effectively communicates ‘why eBay’ and narrows perceptual barriers and legacy perceptions.
  • Lead ongoing creative ideation to develop a cadence of ‘why eBay’ stories that can be communicated through earned/owned and social channels.
  • Create and drive communications strategy for new shopping experiences and enhancements that help position eBay as a tech and eCommerce leader.
  • Build and maintain trusted cross functional relationships across the business and marketing.
  • Use media relationships to integrate programming and uncover compelling stories that will drive positive perception and relevance of eBay with target audiences.
  • Work with agency partners to drive a steady stream of proactive and reactive consumer coverage throughout the year, including:
  • Use seasonal and cultural moments to proactively pitch and place stories mapped to our consumer narrative.
  • Reactively manage consumer-related issues and incoming consumer related media inquiries.
  • Establish and champion relationships with key consumer and technology media and influencers.
  • Develop content strategy surrounding key story opportunities to reach audiences through multiple channels, including earned and owned media.
  • Develop and maintain key messages and narratives for the business and ensure coordination and alignment.
  • Measure effectiveness of consumer communications by tracking consideration.

Job Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have 10-12 years of consumer public relations/communications experience delivering inquisitive and effective strategies– preferably in a global corporation or agency.
  • Excellent media relationships with consumer and technology media.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a dynamic team environment and maintain positive relationships with key business partners.
  • Ability to connect the dots between business initiatives to find and build news or identify industry trends where eBay can stand out as an innovator and leader.
  • Proven record of pitching and placing proactive media stories and reactively managing press inquiries across consumer and technology media.
  • Demonstrated record of creating and driving successful communications strategies and creative campaigns that are strongly rooted in business goals.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating and influencing diverse business partners (especially those at senior levels/C-level executives) in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Excellent writing skills and able to translate narratives into different formats (from story pitches to presentations).
  • Self-motivated great teammate who is creative, proactive, scrappy and hard-working; and, willing to take sensible risks and lead initiatives with confidence.
  • Empathy, good emotional intelligence as well as cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience managing people and small to medium teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • This role reports into the head of Consumer Communications for eBay
  • Role is remote.
