About the team:

Core Technology (CT) is a global team responsible for the end-to-end eBay technology platform. This platform runs our entire infrastructure and all the services that come together to form ebay.com. Within the Core Technology organization, the Site Network Engineering team is responsible for the design and engineering of the production fabrics that connect eBay's computing and storage fleet at data centers, POPs and other properties. We are passionate about what we do and excited about where we are going.

About the role:

The eBay Site Network Engineering team is leading the evolution of the eBay data center network fabric toward a disaggregated paradigm driven by advanced custom automation.  We are seeking an expert network development engineer for this team that has the skills to help lead and deliver the fast pace of network innovation on time and with high quality. In this role you will have an opportunity to join a technology organization of diverse and talented engineers where teams collaborate, innovate, and support one another to blaze the trail to next generation infrastructure.

As a Network Development Engineer on the Site Network Engineering team, you will:

  • Have the knowledge and expertise to meaningfully contribute towards highly available designs and implementations of critical network infrastructure with advanced closed loop automation
  • Codevelop multi-year network strategy with the team
  • Drive thoughtful discussions with customers and peers, and be a positive contributor in the larger eBay technology strategy
  • Collaborate with suppliers and support partners to deliver the right network technology at the right time with high quality
  • Contribute to the achievement of continuous and thorough testing of network hardware and software to achieve a highly available network system.
  • Work closely with network operations teams to improve quality and efficiency in all aspects of operations

The Site Network Engineering team is based in San Jose, but remote work would be a consideration for applicants who demonstrate the ability to work remotely.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years in the role of senior network development engineer with ability to demonstrate unconventional thinking.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing software for automation, preferably with golang or a similar modern language.
  • Is a proponent and practitioner of formal engineering process and precision in carrying out network design projects, including testing.
  • Is an effective written and spoken communicator and is disciplined about documentation.
  • Has significant experience and deep knowledge of BGP and IPv6.
  • Has good working knowledge of open-source network software like SONiC and FRR, and ODM network hardware.
  • Familiarity with the life cycles within large data centers is a big plus.
