About the team:

Core Technology (CT) is a global team responsible for the end-to-end eBay technology platform. This platform runs our entire infrastructure and all the services that come together to form ebay.com. Within the Core Technology organization, the Site Network Engineering team is responsible for the design and engineering of the production fabrics that connect eBay's computing and storage fleet at data centers, POPs and other properties. We are passionate about what we do and excited about where we are going.

About the role:

With the Site Network Engineering team actively evolving eBay data center network fabric design toward a disaggregated paradigm driven by advanced custom automation, we are looking for an expert leader and manager for this team that has the skills to lead and deliver the fast pace of network innovation on time and with high quality. In this role you will have an opportunity to join a technology organization of diverse and talented engineers where teams collaborate, innovate, and support one another to conquer hard technology challenges to build the next generation infrastructure.

As manager of the Site Network Engineering team, you will:

  • Have the knowledge and expertise to positively guide the team to achieve highly available designs and implementations of critical network infrastructure with advanced closed loop automation
  • Develop multi-year network strategy from which you will produce detailed annual project plans and drive them to successful closure
  • Drive thoughtful discussions with customers and peers, and be an influencer in the larger eBay technology strategy
  • Collaborate with suppliers to deliver the right network technology at the right time with high quality
  • Achieve continuous and deep testing of network software to ensure a resilient and highly available network control, data and management plane
  • Work with network operations teams to improve quality and efficiency in all aspects of operations
  • Be a coach and mentor who understands that the strength of the team lies in the collective strength of each of its members.

The Site Network Engineering team is based in San Jose, but remote work within the continental United States would be a consideration for applicants who have demonstrated the ability to lead remotely.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years leading network engineering teams in a high stakes web-scale environment.
  • 10+ years in a senior network design role with notable innovations and accomplishments in web-scale network design.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience developing software for advanced network automation, preferably with golang or a similar modern language.
  • Has a record of employing engineering process and precision in carrying out network design projects, including testing.
  • Is an effective written and spoken communicator, and is disciplined about documentation.
  • Has significant experience and deep knowledge of BGP and IPv6.
  • Has notable experience working with open source network software like SONiC and FRR, ODM network hardware suppliers and the detailed qualification of 3rd party optics.
  • Has expert knowledge and experience with metro and long haul optical systems
  • Familiar with the ins and outs of large data centers
