Job Description

We are looking to hire a Data Scientist to partner with eBay's Messaging product team. As a critical member of the Product Analytics and Insights team, this individual will have the unique opportunity to influence decision making and roadmaps, directly impacting how customers communicate on our platform and help shape the Messaging product into a modern communication experience that makes it easier for our Buyers and Sellers to connect. With a vision to identify opportunities to drive transformative change in the customer experience and result in significant business growth, we mine the largest datasets in the world of e-Commerce and use best in class analytic and big data techniques to extract impactful insights. We achieve this by working closely with the product and engineering teams; and identify new opportunities that can be added to the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems leveraging different analytical and statistical approaches.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to Influence product strategy and investment decisions with data driven insights and recommendations, be focused on impact, and collaborate with other teams.
  • Use data to understand the product and business ecosystem, quantify new opportunities, identify upcoming challenges, and shape product development to bring value to our customers and our business.
  • Help develop strategy and support leadership in prioritizing what to build and setting goals for execution.
  • Build thought partnership with product leadership to drive data-driven decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Math, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 3+ years experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance.
  • Excellent SQL skills. Experience with other programming/scripting languages (Python, R, Julia etc.) to extract/manipulate data.
  • Experience with NLP techniques like sentiment analysis, topic modeling and text classification is preferred.
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to deal with ambiguity, balancing attention to detail and big picture vision.
  • Ability to optimally work cross functionally and communicate quantitative insights to both technical and non-technical audiences across all seniority levels.
  • Willingness to get out of your comfort zone, continuously learn about new business functions, datasets, and tools.
