About the team:

We are looking for a Systems Analyst to join the Risk Monitoring and Alerting team.  As a System Analyst at eBay you’ll dive deep into processes that manage risk and work with engineers to instrument the processes for real-time monitoring.  If you enjoy tearing things apart to figure out how they work and what is most likely to break you’ll enjoy being a Systems Analyst at eBay.

As a member of the team, you'll query historical data with SQL to understand what metrics were early indicators of significant fraud attacks and help our engineering partners turn those into real time metrics that will give us early warning of significant attacks.  You’ll work with our Risk teams to understand how various malicious actors operate and what metrics may be likely to change when we have a large attack.  You will be trained on eBay’s monitoring stack with technologies like Sherlock.IO, Prometheus, Hadoop, Elasticsearch/Kibana and others.

What You'll Do

  • Utilize Sherlock.IO and Prometheus to maintain existing alerting rules, develop new rules

  • Utilize Elasticsearch/Kibana to create observability into risk events triggering alerts.

  • Develop reporting to track and monitor performance of alerts based on alert type, severity, frequency, etc.

  • Investigate new technologies and tools and recommend those that best fit the team and organization to continually expand our monitoring capabilities.

  • Champion monitoring methodologies

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent STEM field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 2+ years of similar experience as a Business/Systems Analyst

  • 3+ years of experience writing SQL, prefer in Hive.

  • Strong experience and proficiency with Python, Shell, Go, Java, or similar languages.

  • Experience in applying statistical methodologies to solve business problems.

  • Experience working in a Unix environment preferred

  • Experience with Prometheus/Grafana, Elasticsearch/Kibana preferred.

  • Ability to break down complex problems and business questions and effectively communicate actionable insights to diverse audiences.
