eBay Inc.’s innovative Legal Department is seeking an experienced financial services regulatory counsel attorney to focus primarily on financial regulatory compliance matters at eBay. You will be advising on how we can build and/or enhance programs at eBay designed to ensure financial regulatory compliance for existing and new products. Ideally you will have experience counseling on a wide scope of financial regulation, including consumer protection, state and federal UDAP/UDAAP laws, EFTA/Reg E, TILA/Reg Z, prepaid laws and regulations, state lending laws, and financial services regulations governing customer complaints. This is a US based position in either San Jose, CA, Austin, TX, or Draper, Utah.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams from Product, Go To Market teams, Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit to help deliver an outstanding buying and selling experience for our customers while ensuring eBay’s payment entities are successfully complying with existing legal regulation in the US and globally. The ideal candidate has prior experience have experience with payment businesses within FinTech companies and/or other global marketplaces. Prior experience building out operational compliance programs is also preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Advise business and functional partners regarding non-AML financial regulatory compliance requirements applicable to our business

  • Expertise should include broad experience advising on multiple areas of financial regulation

  • US expertise required, however experience advising regarding global compliance strategies is preferred

  • Help develop efficient, customer-centric compliance strategies

Candidates must ideally have:

  • Law degree and be authorized to practice law in the United States

  • At least 5+ years of relevant legal experience

  • Solutions oriented legal advisor with prior in-house experience or prior experience working with FinTechs and/or marketplace platforms

  • Experience implementing relevant compliance programs and compliance controls, including development of policies and procedures

  • The ability to build positive relationships quickly and interact with junior to senior business leaders with ease

  • Willingness to be flexible with the scope and variety of projects to be undertaken in this role

  • Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, a fast-paced culture, and a practical, solutions-oriented focus to solving legal challenges

  • Capable of working with minimal direction

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Excellent judgment and project leadership skills and someone who is always thinking about new ways of doing things
