eBay’s GPBR (Global Payments, Billing and Risk) team is looking for an Platform/Release Engineer. This will be a large scale system admin, full-cycle automation engineer, and the candidate will be joining a fast-paced environment where teamwork, high standards, and precise execution will be critical to their success. This position requires interaction with a variety of internal teams, including Billing Operations, Global Customer Experience, Collections, Finance, Product Development & Quality Assurance, as well as 3rd party vendors.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Support product teams in all of their post-commit needs for builds and releases
  • Help make our CI pipelines and releases processes as automated as possible
  • Facilitate automation for the release of our products as binaries for multiple target OS’s and packaging formats
  • Evolve our continuous integration test harnesses, and help the team keep test runs fast and reliably green
  • Contribute to developing best practices for Infrastructure as Code, software build tools, and Continuous Integration
  • Continuously improve automated build, test and deployment workflows
  • Optimize performance, scale out and build resiliency in the platform
  • Support production and development systems in a constantly evolving environment of integrated systems
  • Provide installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems software and related infrastructure
  • Maintain enterprise applications by adhering to configuration management and change
  • Implement automated approaches for system administration tasks
  • Ensure the quality and performance of the platform through fully automated functional and performance testing
  • Work as a member of infrastructure engineering responsible to design, develop and operate cloud platforms in the data center which runs 24x7


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related fields
  • 7+ years experience in designing, building and managing large scale platform or distributed systems
  • Flexibility regarding working hours supporting production activities
  • Superior multitasking skills including the ability to lead, manage and coordinate multiple issues, arriving at a common objective
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following: C/C++, Linux Shell Script, Perl/Python, Java, Scala or Golang is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operation and troubleshooting
  • Experience in automating large-scale deployments with modern software configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet, Ansible) and monitoring (Prometheus) is a plus point
  • Experience delivering modern applications and services with devops model
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and organizations
  • Enjoy working on developer tooling and release automation for enterprise software in business critical environments
  • Have experience scripting and writing tools in Bash, Ruby, Python or Go and have some exposure to unit and integration testing
  • Feel comfortable crafting, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Have a thorough understanding of infrastructure management concepts, ecosystems, and tooling
  • Passionate about automation, internal tooling, testing, and detailed documentation
  • confidence in operating and maintaining production systems in a Linux and public cloud environment, and a good understanding of their complexities and challenges
  • Excited to work with various container technologies
  • Have a proven understanding of security principles and concerns
  • Excited about building software packages and software installers
