The role

The Risk & Protections function at eBay works to ensure phenomenal experiences when buyers and sellers come together and engage in commerce on the biggest marketplace in the world. This involves comprehensively understanding Payments & Risks on platform, and identifying the opportunity areas and helping build scalable solutions to drive outstanding user experience.

We are multi-disciplinary with a broad spectrum of industry experience and deep analytical and quantitative expertise. We are currently seeking a high energy, driven, collaborative team member that brings extensive problem-solving skills to foster the goal of applying innovative risk analytics, insights and visualization to drive the risk management roadmap. Successful candidates should be quick learners, strategic problem solvers, operational and execution driven facilitators, problem solvers, and have an entrepreneurial spirit. This role is heavily cross-functional and ideal for candidates who enjoy both defining and solving complex problems, while getting deeply involved in the classification domain and product partners. Skills in problem definition, rigorous analysis, and recommendation development will also be essential as well as demonstration of exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative and integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Help organize and syndicate the rich data and insights available to the Risk team from various resources to enable effective decision-making and prioritization
  • Look across the business to draw out insights, drive efficiencies and solutions to business problems to ensure the team is setup to meet business goals
  • Monitor the performance of risk strategies and proactively seek out opportunities for improvement in policy, operations, and product
  • Rigorously measure performance metrics and outcomes, and continually improve processes at scale
  • Develop meaningful insights that improve risk controls based on large incidents, near misses, product and portfolio analysis.
  • Drive deeper understanding of the function through analytics and draw insights to drive business in the right direction.
  • Produce data driven insights that prevent fraud and create extraordinary user experiences.
  • Facilitate timely and informed decision making by delivering high quality analytical results.
  • Drive insights and understanding to help design, plan, and implement methodologies to measure successes of business initiatives.
  • Streamline processes and identify/complete automation and time-saving opportunities.
  • Improve risk decision-making by balancing loss mitigation with growth and buyer experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is a plus) in a relevant quantitative field: such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in using data & analytics to facilitate business decisions
  • Risk and fraud management experience is a plus
  • Prior Payments/eCommerce/Fin-tech / Consulting experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, and ability to communicate complex technical topics in clear simple terms
  • Good judgment with the ability to think creatively, analytically and strategically.
  • People-oriented; eager to build positive and productive relationships with a variety of partners

Requirements:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, SQL, are crucial. Proficiency in python is highly desired.
  • Experience in developing, designing and maintaining Tableau dashboards
  • Communicate ideas succinctly and accurately; tailor your communication to a broad range of audiences; active listening and good presentation skills.
