India Analytics Center (IAC) in Bangalore is the largest global analytics center of excellence for eBay outside its San Jose, CA headquarters. The center has diverse functions and teams. We are responsible for delivering business insights and high impact analyses to the Product and Business teams. The team addresses strategic and operational questions facing the business including user behavior, performance measurement, and product and marketing efficiency.

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager, Vertical Analytics to join us, reporting to the Head, Americas Analytics at the center. This individual will partner with the cross functional Vertical categorbusiness teams across Americas to meet their analytic needs and conduct extensive analyses of eBay's rich data, generating insights, and communicating those insights to the team to guide the project roadmap.  In the process, this person will develop a deep understanding of eBay Marketplaces and site functionality, further strengthen their analytic, leadership, and presentation skills, and gain exposure to a wide variety of functional teams within eBay.

The role is data and analytically intensive. Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will possess strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for achieving practical business impact. Skills in problem definition, rigorous analysis, and recommendation development will also be critical. Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative and integrity.

As a manager of analytics team unit with the center, the right candidate will also assume leadership responsibilities for departmental activities/responsibilities, including:

  • Advising, guiding, and counseling direct reports and other team members as and when needed to ensure full team alignment and compliance with eBay Marketplaces policies and procedures
  • Identifying, recruiting, hiring, developing, and overseeing direct and possibly indirect reports
  • Ensure that the overall team meets or exceeds assigned goals, objectives,  performance metrics and other targets

Additional requirements: Travel to US offices of eBay 1-2 times a year is required as part of the role. Some flexibility also required to attend telephone or video conference meetings in late evenings during some days of the week with US partners.

The Responsibilities:

Provide people management leadership and thought leadership to Innovate, Identify, and Explore new analytics and operational opportunities. Help get results to enable the business units (B/U) and product teams to supervise and drive initiatives via the performance metrics. Identify, quantify, prioritize, test, launch, and supervise improvements in business outcomes in their markets from both buyer and seller perspectives.

Provide horizontal leadership across the Bangalore Center on certain topics to other peers and teams on certain critical topics (e.g. Data Science, Story-telling skills, Experimentation design, etc.), with the goal to elevate the overall capabilities of the organization.

Develop relationships across America's business, finance, and product organizations, collaborate and share what's best and define new standards

Evaluate the performance of tested features and deliver final test results in a clear, concise and significant manner

Promote a self-serve analytics culture for the organization by educating partners on key reports, data, and interpretation standard methodologies.

Job Skills required:

Display a proven track record of deep engagement as an invested partner, mentoring across business units on analytics strategy, interpreting results, providing clear focused business direction and insights

Demonstrate deep functional based analysis, with the ability to persuasively present insights and make recommendations and execute

Lead and execute entire projects or components of large projects including data gathering and manipulation, synthesis, modeling, problem-solving, and documentation

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Applied Econometrics, Math, Physics, Computer Science, other related core Sciences or equivalent plus 8+ years of work experience Or Master’s degree and 6yrs+ work experience in leading highly quantitative analytic projects, utilizing various statistical techniques or Machine Learning techniques/tools to develop algorithms and predictive models.
  • Minimum 6 + years related experience, impacting large domain/business unit results and partner relationships through the creation of business process
  • 2-4 years consistent track record as a line manager and business partner of large domain/business unit with shown results and exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytic impact
  • Sophisticated Excel, PowerPoint skills, and database query skills (e.g., Teradata SQL, SparkSQL); and an understanding of data warehouse architecture, impact on the business
  • Experience with Hadoop/Hive/Python/R/R Shiny and Tableau, ideally in web analytics or at a leading management consulting, financial services or marketing company.

Travel to US or Europe offices of eBay 1-2 times a year is required as part of the role. eBay is very encouraging and works collaboratively with its employees’ to help manage work-life balance.
