Overview:

We are seeking an experienced product designer to deliver user-centric designs for Web, iOS and Android on Gumtree. As a Product Designer, you will build design solutions using best practices and established UX methodologies, helping shape and deliver the best products for our customers. You will be responsible for working within the team to execute outstanding UX through customer insight and forward-thinking choreography throughout the user journey.

You will be a part of the growing and highly creative design/product team, working alongside other designers, product managers, engineers and senior stakeholders. You will delve into the world of our customers and understand their needs and expectations. You will share your approach within the design team and with stakeholders across the wider team. You will be responsible for crafting intuitive and inspiring user experiences for our customers, engaging them to buy and sell on Gumtree.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within an experienced and energetic team to drive Gumtree’s ambitions as the UK’s leading classifieds site.

This opportunity will start fixed term for one year.

Key responsibilities:

  • Articulate a UX design rationale that helps inform our product strategy and deliver our key objectives

  • Work closely with the product design team, product managers and engineers to define, drive and execute visual design direction and elements for Gumtree

  • Explore a variety of user experience design directions in a rapid iterative fashion, incorporating feedback from users and other members of the team

  • Execute and test designs that span the whole product lifecycle from concept through to production using sketches, wireframes, low and hi-fidelity comps, user and interaction flows, lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes, specs, guidelines and production-ready assets

  • Design execution and delivery within a dedicated squad using agile principles and methods

  • Provide input into experiments that help the team learn and iterate, including hypothesis led multivariate testing

  • Lead a workstream of user research and continuous discovery

  • Synthesise findings to help build a clear picture of customer needs and behaviours

  • Incorporate user feedback into core aspects of our design system and product

  • Conduct demos and workshops within product and technology, as well as the wider team

  • Inspire and collaborate with the design team and cross-functional teams to deliver a world-class customer experience

  • Be on the cusp of design trends and practices across all platforms

Preferred skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of consumer UX design experience working within a multi-disciplinary UX team in an agile environment

  • Excellent visual and interaction design skills, with a portfolio of work that contains examples of UX Design and Visual Systems Development for digital applications (cross-platform and browser environments)

  • Experience managing UX research and building customer insights

  • Demonstrated experience contributing to a positive culture for UX teams

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with a focus on customer-centred design

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence across multiple teams

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership

  • Experience using Axure, Invision, framerX, or other prototyping tools

  • Expert knowledge in Figma

  • Open and honest communication style

  • Persuasive written, visual and interpersonal communication skills

  • Capable of operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment across multiple teams and balancing multiple priorities

  • Sense of fun and a positive demeanour
