Manager Taxonomy Design team - Structured Data 

Structured Data plays a key role in eBay's core product: it's a transformative step to drive discoverability of more than 1 billion items inventory. We are powering a shopping experience that is tailored to each eBay user’s interests, passions and shopping history. In Structured Data, we are improving visibility and offering best-in-class guidance to provide sellers with insights and help buyers find what they are looking for. With our vast inventory that varies from new to vintage, we’re making shopping on eBay all about you, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. eBay is searching for a bright, adaptable, and passionate candidate to join its Structured Data Configuration Operations team. 

What will you do:

  • Manage a talented Taxonomy Design team, who is responsible for the ebay category tree in 3 business verticals (Electronics, Media and Health & Beauty).   

  • Will manage an element of the Global Configuration Operations roadmap as well as a team of employees and contractors.

  • Mentor and guide the development of your team members in a tailored insightful manner suited for each individual

  • Participate in data analysis, design, documentation, and maintenance of intuitive, Structured Data taxonomies.

  • Researches, validates and delivers Best-in-Class, data-driven taxonomies based on a solid understanding of the ecommerce marketplace, including knowledge of top down, mental models, and heuristic approaches to design.

  • Collaborate globally with product managers, business units, analytics, engineering and localization teams, to brainstorm and build the next generation of our data model.

  • Partner effectively and influence peers and senior leadership both within the organization and across eBay.

  • Relentlessly on improving the user experience through improved taxonomies and terminologies.

  • Bootstraps new products seamlessly to existing flat and hierarchical designs and focuses

  • Maintain a balance between short term and long term group goals.

  • Masters the information science field of content representation, entity definitions and its relationships.

  • Understands the challenges of content management in e-commerce, and embraces difficulties with an unflappable sense of optimism.

  • Comfortably manages projects with an overall accountability for success, and is willing to become a subject matter expert in different content areas of e-commerce.

  • Is a team player: that includes also being flexible to move across different areas beyond the comfort zone when needed.

  • Establishes and maintains effective global communication with team members, stakeholders, and executives.

  • Responds to information needs through implementation/modification of taxonomy, vocabulary, tools and processes.

  • Proactively monitors trends in the Content Management industry, including: process, technology and culture.

Requirements:

  • Experience managing content teams and projects (minimum 2 years)

  • Structured approach to problem solving – whilst remaining Customer Focused

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of eCommerce

  • Flexible, open and comfortable working with a broad range of people across teams and cultures

  • Has a minimum: BA or BS degree, or equivalent experience, in Information Science, Data Science, or the equivalent in work experience

  • Ability to work effectively with remote teams and to build effective professional relationships with ease.

  • Demonstrate technical understanding of pipelines and process

  • Proficiency in MS Office set of tools.

  • Familiarity handling relational databases/Structured Query Language (nice to have)

  • Experience working with Taxonomy or Data modelling & structuring (nice to have)
