To work with the Legal Director, Compliance/Commercial/Product team and especially with all French Business Units based in Paris for all relevant legal matters/contracts involving eBay’s French/Parts of Europe marketplaces businesses. These include the eBay branded marketplace website and businesses in some parts of Europe.

To provide best-in-class problem solving and solution oriented legal advice on a various range of matters (mainly tax and internet law).

Core responsibilities: key regular activities of the job

  • Be the trusted advisor for the French senior leadership team (including CEO, Sales Director, CMO and COO) on all and any high profile projects/matters (VAT, circular economy, EU regulations such DSA, DMA among others),

  • provide strategic advice in a highly regulated environment,

  • lead and coordinate the legal work on pan-EU projects both with EU lawyers and business partners,

  • manage the relationship with outside counsels on internet and tax matters and manage the legal budget for eBay France and coordinate with the European team to stay within the budget

  • advise and lead relations with French authorities (DGCCRF, DGFIP, etc),

  • support the litigation team with litigation of any kind in France,

  • provide legal guidance on new projects and site functionalities, support of marketing requests,

  • provide legal assessment of cooperation with third parties etc. Contract work in a wide range of working areas like sales contracts, cooperation, general service provider contracts etc.

  • The job contains independent work on separate national and also European projects. Furthermore, this position requires a high attitude of leadership and collaboration with the rest of the Compliance/Commercial/Product Lawyers, the legal team in Europe and globally and the business clients in France.

  • Ability to advice on high-profile projects which are affected by the laws of a different jurisdiction, also with the help of outside counsels where appropriate.

  • Training the business clients on different legal aspects (mainly internet, IP and tax matters)

Experience, qualifications & personal characteristics

  • The described broad area of legal questions needs someone who has a general interest in all areas of the law and strong skills in internet and tax matters.

  • Preferred is dual-qualified lawyer (French/English qualified lawyer eg.) with an international background. This is not a hard requirement.

  • PQE of 5-10 years. Previous experience in e-commerce field appreciated.

  • Strong business acumen and a business first mentality

  • Track record of interacting with senior partners

  • Proficient in French and English, Spanish a plus

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, pressurised environment and to act quickly and decisively with the French leadership team

  • Passion for eBay and a user of its products

  • Commercial outlook and a strategic and creative problem solver with self-confidence, ‘can do’ attitude, sound judgement and a good sense of humour

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances

  • Computer literacy with excellent written and verbal communication skills
