Design Lead (Manager)

San Francisco, California Requisition Number R0039384 Subsidiary eBay

Help us shape how the world buys and sells.  At eBay we empower commerce, locally and globally—from the boutique sneaker shop in Harajuku looking to expand their customer base, to the Houston mom buying camping gear for family summer adventures.

Today the eBay Design Team is on a mission to elevate our commerce platform and raise the bar on what a great experience is. We focus on craft and process to create intuitive products with the user at the center. We believe every detail adds up and when you thoughtfully bring together utility, elegance and simplicity, you have something beautiful.

In this role you will help to define and drive the future state of one of the most critical parts of our buyer’s journey—from the moment they decide to buy something to the moment it arrives at their doorstep. Over 180 million dollars flow through our checkout experience every day. As the Design Lead for Payments Buyer Experience, this will be your sandbox.

Your key responsibility will be leveraging your team to form a vision for the experience while directing and supporting them as they work toward that vision.  To do that you’ll need to have a clear understanding of the business goals balanced by a keen awareness of our users perspectives and needs.  It requires excellent communication, a critical eye for detail and a passion for great design.  We are looking for a candidate who not only has a strong design practice themselves but understands the importance of process and knows how to foster a culture of design on their team. You will help team members identify career goals and provide mentorship and guidance to help achieve them. Most importantly, you will develop a strategy to guide your team through the fuzzy, non-linear path from problem definition to product launch.

  • A portfolio of needle-moving work created by a team of designers led and managed by you.

  • 2+ years experience managing design teams

  • 5+ years experience producing visual, interface or interaction design work in a professional setting.

  • A strong perspective and the ability to back that perspective up.
