Team Description:
We are the Search Engine Development team for eBay. The eBay search engine handles billions of queries daily on a corpus of 3 billion documents. We write modern, high-performance C++ distributed systems code deployed under Linux. We use advanced lock-free programming techniques and custom allocators to squeeze every last drop of performance out of our servers. We collaborate closely with Science teams so that their machine-learned models can run as efficiently as possible. We implement advanced algorithms in Information Retrieval and Concise Data Structures. If you're interested in distributed systems programming, IR, or performant Modern C++, we would like to talk to you. We're about a dozen developers responsible for the search engine running on over 30,000 geographically distributed server nodes. Come join us.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand, estimate, design and implement complex software applications in C++
  • Deliver highly performing, low latency, robust code with high test c, continuous integration and production monitoring
  • Participate in engineering design and code reviews
  • Triage and debug production issues
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Learn all about our bespoke search engine: Cassini
  • Collaborate with peers and engineers from other teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or closely related field with 5 years of relevant experience
  • Expertise in Modern C++
  • Expertise in building scalable, distributed systems
  • Familiarity in the field of Information Retrieval.
