Job Description:

The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) team is seeking a highly motivated individual with a combination of business systems, project management, and data analysis skills to assume a role within the Controller/Accounting Systems team. This is an opportunity to become a member of a dynamic organization acting as a subject matter professional on systems and data at eBay. Ideal candidates will demonstrate his/her systems, process knowledge, and project management skills to communicate, analyze, and consolidate financial data analyses from multiple systems to contribute meaningfully to a winning organization. You will partner with various stakeholders across the organization (Product and Engineering, Finance, Controllership and Payment Operations) to help implement technical solutions required to enable the company’s effective accounting and financial reporting processes. This position is part of the Controlling Systems team and reports to the Director of Accounting Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a cross functional role to ensure fluid integration of new business initiatives within eBay’s processes and systems. This includes reviewing eBay site or payment processing enhancements prior to launch to determine impact to the financial and general ledger systems and then managing any required system or process changes as appropriate. Ensure transactions flow end-to-end across multiple systems and are correctly recorded in the financial and data warehouse systems.

  • Influence and inspire change with cross functional teams and across matrix to ensure comprehensive project coverage. Prioritize effectively and work to resolve issues timely.

  • Support various accounting and reporting system related projects as a project manager and from a business owner perspective, including concept development, requirement identification, user acceptance testing, and production implementation from a process and operational standpoint. Provide data and reporting requirements for complex projects, develop reporting models for accounting and operational management of the product.

  • Manage sophisticated system reconciliations such as payment file reconciliations across multiple systems.

  • Diagnose data quality/bad transaction issues by drilling down complex data structures to extract the root cause of variances between multiple systems and effectively communicate the results and potential solutions to accounting and technology teams.

  • Continuously evaluate Accounting/Finance systems and processes to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to stream-line existing processes and improve automation through better utilization of systems.

  • Supports product roadmaps by determining the impact of new initiatives on finance systems and processes, and manages any required changes as appropriate

  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously across cross-functional teams

  • Participates in planning efforts for new initiatives, providing input based on subject area knowledge

  • Effective communication skills - including the capability to listen to the needs of others, research and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and concise manner, and present findings as well as recommendations in both oral and written presentations.

  • Proficient at solving problems through collaboration with internal teams

  • Initiates and establishes effective partnerships with internal clients, dedicated to meeting their expectations and requirements

  • Supports operational excellence goals, identifies and collaborates on opportunities for improvement

  • Strong project management skills and an ability to work well with all levels of an organization.

  • Superb attention to detail and able to deliver results in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

  • Comfort with initiating and responding to change; demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement process/system improvements.

  • Focus on eBay shared purpose, commitments, and behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6-8 years of proven experience and a BS degree in Accounting, IT, Business Administration, or closely related field

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills

  • Past experiences demonstrate knowledge working with custom applications, querying databases and knowledge of data warehousing concepts/tools, operational accounting processes and systems

  • Experience working with sophisticated systems, data extraction, transformation, and loading. Sophisticated knowledge of SQL, Zeta, SQL MicroStrategy and Tableau. Proficient with extensive data manipulation using Excel and Tableau. Ability to write simple queries, and produce reports using SQL queries and other reporting tools

  • Project management experience

  • Established knowledge of finance and accounting concepts, business process knowledge, and understanding of GAAP and SOX 404 compliance

  • Public Accounting and/or accounting management experience

  • Experience in e-Commerce and payments industry

  • Experience working at a growing global company

  • SAP experience a plus

The success of this role will largely be dependent on the ability to manage various partners across the Product and Engineering, Finance, Controllership and Payment Operations teams to ensure process and systems are designed and implemented in accordance with the accounting and reporting requirements of the company.
