The Controllership organization is looking for a highly motivated individual with a combination of project management and data analysis skills to assume a role within the Accounting Systems team. This role will be primarily responsible for supporting eBay's Global Payments initiatives, including the expansion of the digital wallet offering buyers additional forms of payments, and overseeing the integration of those payments into our financial accounting systems. This role will also support the automation of cash movements between eBay and its Payment processing partners, and ensure on-demand money movements are properly recorded from an accounting and reconciliation perspective.

The successful candidate will find him/herself surrounded by sharp professionals with diverse backgrounds, operating in a fast-paced, intellectual, and collaborative environment. The success of this role will largely be dependent on the ability to manage various partners across the Controllership/Finance, Treasury, Billing, Product Management and Product Development teams to ensure process and systems are designed and implemented in accordance with the accounting and reporting requirements. The model candidate will demonstrate a sense of problem awareness, the skills for critical thinking, an ability to break down and improve systems and processes, and a vision for future needs.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support various aspects of our global Payments business. Lead multiple projects with reduced direction from manager. Provide product operational and business overview, including risks, to management in the form of meetings and presentations. Influence and inspire change with cross functional teams and across matrix to ensure comprehensive project coverage. Manage risks, prioritize effectively, and work to resolve issues timely.

  • Support various Payments related projects as a project manager; including concept development, requirement identification, user acceptance testing, and production implementation from a process and operational standpoint. Provide data and reporting requirements for complex projects, develop reporting models for accounting and operational management of the product.

  • Manage complex, system intensive reconciliations between various sources of transactions, statutory and management reporting systems in accordance with financial close deadlines. Includes active participation in the review of the systems and reconciliation processes with internal and external auditors.

  • Continuously evaluate Operational Accounting/Finance systems and processes to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to streamline existing processes and improve automation through better utilization of systems.

Job Requirements

Candidates for this position must have 8+ years of progressive experience in managing complex projects. Extensive experience at a large growth company a plus. Exposure to consumer internet or e-commerce business models is preferred. SAP experience required.

  • BS degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or closely related field.

  • Manage complex, system intensive reconciliations in accordance with financial close deadlines. Includes active participation in the review of the systems and reconciliation processes with internal and external auditors.

  • Diagnose data quality/bad transaction issues by drilling down complex data structures to extract the root cause of variances between multiple systems and effectively communicate the results and potential solutions to accounting and technology teams.

  • Ability to understand at a detailed level a complex systems architecture in which data flows between interconnected systems managed by different teams.

  • Ability to manage various partners to ensure process and systems are designed and implemented in accordance with requirements and participate in UAT.

  • Demonstrate a sense of problem awareness, the skills for critical and analytical thinking and problem solving, an ability to break down and improve systems and processes, and a vision for future needs.

  • Effective interpersonal skills – including capability to listen to the needs of others, research and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and concise manner, and present findings as well as recommendations in both oral and written form.

  • Comfort with initiating and responding to change; proven ability to identify, develop and implement process/systems improvements.

  • Past experiences must include working with complex systems, knowledge of operational accounting processes and systems. Candidates must be self-starters with a proven work ethic and ability to work with all levels in an organization.
