The Computer Vision team at eBay Core AI is seeking highly qualified candidates for full-time Senior Research Scientist position in our beautiful San Jose office.

As a computer vision research scientist you will work on problems such as Large Scale Visual Search/Detection/Recognition, Fine Grained Classification, Deep Learning, Attribute Discovery and Localization, Weakly Supervised Learning, Semantic Segmentation and OCR. With hundreds of millions of buyers and sellers, 1.3B+ of live listings at any point of time, millions of daily transactions and billions of daily queries, eBay provides an amazing playground for researchers to work with data and conduct experiments at scale. We actively pursue ideas that result in scalable algorithms and systems, while using the scale of data.

As a Senior leader for Computer Vision organization, you will be responsible for evolving CV applied research and for wide adoption of the models across various product domains. In this role, you will drive the team's vision, collaborate with product management, infrastructure/data/domain services partners and work very closely with customers (data scientists / developers) so they can further build groundbreaking and compelling experiences to our end users. You have the technical chops to provide pragmatic leadership, as well as the people skills to lead a complementary team of skilled developers. You will provide exceptional technical leadership in an innovative and fast paced environment. You will be responsible to the planning, execution of the various projects from inception to deploying and leading them in production at scale. You are passionate about technology and can keep up with the latest.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD program in Computer Science or related subject areas

  • 10+ years of Applied Research experience. Hands-on engagement towards architecture, design, implementation, scaling, and reliability of ML platform and systems

  • 7+ years leading Researchers/engineering teams

  • Multiple publications in at least one credible computer vision conference such as CVPR, ICCV. This is mandatory.

  • Hands-on experience with Deep Learning for computer vision

  • Mandatory hands-on experience in Caffe, TensorFlow or Torch. Experience with CUDA is preferred

  • Strong background in computer vision algorithms, low level vision, applied machine learning

  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python

  • Experience with fast prototyping

  • Strong problem solving skills, written and oral communication skills

  • Overall understanding/experience with all components/processes in ML life cycle development: Data services/pipelines, model training, deployment of models for inference at scale

  • People management skills, consistent track record of mentoring and coaching

  • Track record of delivering high quality, innovative products based on rapidly evolving technologies

  • Ability to collaborate, engage, and influence all the involved stake holders (direct reporting team, partners, customers alike)

  • Ability to clearly articulate complex architectures into simple verbal and written communications

  • Flourish with challenges with a growth mind set and make-it-happen attitude
