Managing Payments Risk and Fraud is at the core of a managed marketplace and ensures we have responsible growth as we can scale out Managed Payments globally. Grow the topline with a stellar customer experience while managing your bottom line exposure.

The Payments Risk/Fraud team are looking for a Director of Product for Risk Infrastructure with deep subject matter expertise in both risk management and science/machine learning. The Risk Infrastructure team owns Global Product Strategy and Execution for Decision Engines (user touchpoints and remediations), realtime and near-realtime data aggregation layers, enabling rapid model training and retraining, integration into machine learning environments including network graphs and model execution. This team also manages high volume data streaming, snapshotting requests to aid with model and strategy training. This is a high impact, high visibility role and will shape the future of the Risk Infrastructure at eBay.

Candidates in this role will create Product strategy and own execution for these areas and will manage a team of globally distributed hardworking product managers. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background in driving strategy with senior leadership and building consensus, translating strategy into execution plans and using a matrixed organization to meet business goals. They will also be an engineer by training, clarity of thought, have a deep understanding of building platforms and should have significant experience in the above areas.

  • Own and drive the long term vision, strategy and execution for the portfolio of Risk Infrastructure for Decision and Data.

  • Create a prioritized multi-year defensible Product strategy tailored to eBay’s Risk portfolio and stay ahead of internal customer needs

  • Own and drive cross-organizational planning to advance the fidelity of eBay’s decision engines, data and ML platform

  • Ability to pitch and sell Platform products and demonstrated ability to articulate customer value of Platform products.

  • Lead a team of global product managers that delivers a quickly adaptable risk science infrastructure that reduces overhead and maintenance to near-zero.

  • Create and jointly own critical metrics for these areas along with Engineering and Data Science teams and contribute to risk strategies to achieve these goals

  • Synthesize short and long term product capabilities from cross-functional teams across Policy, Risk and Buyer/Seller teams and maintain a groomed, prioritized backlog

  • Drive strategy creation, execution, partner communication across leadership audiences.

  • Collaborate with the Risk, Fraud, Risk architecture and eBay’s Core Technology teams to build next-gen account linking systems and its adoption for Risk use cases.

  • Define platform metrics and partner closely with Product Analytics to measure impact

  • Coach, mentor and build a high performance team by providing effective, timely feedback and learning opportunities

Role Requirements - The Basics:

  • The ideal candidate for this role will be a cross between a Product guru, proven strategy contributor and an excellent people manager

  • Minimum of 15 years of Product Management experience with expertise in all areas listed above - experience in Risk, Fraud, high volume infrastructure, e-Commerce essential.

  • Minimum of 7+ years in software development, data analytics, and machine learning science.

  • A master's degree, or equivalent course work in an analytical field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, etc.) is preferred, MBA preferred

  • 7+ years of experience as a people manager with demonstrated ability to build and grow a high performance team

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment using a data-driven and analytical approach.

  • Ability to lead multiple sophisticated projects across cross-functional, distributed teams and multiple client groups

  • Experience with product development lifecycle, process flows and working in an agile environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and ability to influence senior management (Director, VP+) across different organizations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation of concepts with collateral (slides, white papers and documents) with a clear storyline and narrative

  • Ability to articulate and present everything from early concepts to full product launch plans to your team, as well as to external and executive audiences and defend your POV in the face of disagreement

  • Standout colleague with empathy for our customers (both internal and external) and desire to understand their needs, wants and concerns

  • Ability to influence both Product and Engineering teams outside of their own organization

  • Self-starter with the ability to present/assert/pursue independent ideas and drive them to execution with minimal oversight; think strategically and execute incrementally
