Network Development EngineerSan Jose, California Requisition Number R0042230
eBay is looking for a Network Development Engineer- Location flexible in the US
eBay has embarked on a transformation of our core technology layers to accelerate success for the coming generations of our products and services. As an extension of this mission, the eBay Site Network Security team is on the lookout for a talented developer with an equally strong understanding of networking and network security. We refer to this talent as the “Network Development Engineer”.
Site Network Security is a team within the Site Network Engineering team that specializes in network security. The Site Network Engineering team itself is responsible for all aspects of network infrastructure within our production sites globally, both data centers and our points of presence.
In this role you have an opportunity to define eBay’s next generation network architectures with a focus on security and on automating all aspects of its life cycle. In the Site Network Security team, security is not embodied by a security box. We consider network security holistically since the state of any system is the sum of its parts. We work closely with our sister team who focus on our network fabrics to ensure the security of all aspects of the system -- routing, filtering, copp, advanced threat protection and more.
Your primary responsibilities will be to design and build software that help scale the operations of our network, with an emphasis on airtight security. In this regard, your mission is to build infrastructure that fully aligns to the principles of cloud.
You will work with your close counterparts in the Site Network Core team to build the underpinnings of a device control function upon which topology and security control functions are implemented. Further, you will work on the security components within the device control function as well as the security orchestration functions that will interact with those components in the device control function. You would be involved in helping to build creative solutions around automated testing, automated compliance checks, and building a CI/CD process for all software that the Site Network Engineering team develops. For this, you must have a passion for automation at all stages of software development, build, test, release, operations and maintenance. You will also work closely with operational teams to hand over new capabilities into production operations and to discover additional opportunities for automation.
Why work for eBay? Our team is small but our mission is large. You will be a part of this small team of hardworking, authentic and down-to-earth individuals who support one another. At eBay you have an opportunity to drive a larger outcome rather than building the next widget within a substantial team. You have an opportunity to invent, rather than extend someone else’s invention.
Your background should include:
- 8-10 years of hands on experience in networking and development
- Deep knowledge and hands on experience with network security
- Experience with object oriented languages such as Python (required), C, Java, and/or Golang
- Experience in working with REST APIs
- Proficiency in using source code control systems, continuous build integration, test case management and reporting tools
- Experience in Agile methodologies
- Understanding of Infrastructure as code where configurations are modeled and versioned like code
- Experience with deploying software in Kubernetes
- Working knowledge and understanding of routing protocols (BGP, ISIS) and other networking protocols like LLDP, BFD, etc
- Complete understanding of ACLs, firewall policies and NAT
- Understanding of how CDN solutions factor into security to protect against DDoS attacks
- Knowledge of specific threat models and methodologies
- Understanding of risk based security strategies
- Proficient with Production site operational patterns around security, reliability, and scaling.
