THE ROLE

As a Sr. Design Director for the eBay Payments team, you’ll lead a team that is at the center of eBay’s new payment experience. In this role you and your team will engage with our partners across buying and selling to define how our customers engage with the eBay payments experience. You will also play a key role in defining the future user experience for the world’s largest online marketplace with over 100 million shoppers and 25+ million sellers.

Your responsibility in this role is to bring your talents as a deep systems problem solver, accomplished designer, and information architect to bear in crafting sophisticated and simple interfaces that solve complex interaction problems. Soft skills will also be incredibly important as you forge relationships across teams and across functions to help us all realize our future vision for eBay.

ABOUT YOU

You have a clear understanding of each facet of the design process - information architecture + interaction design, research + usability, rapid prototyping, visual + motion design, brand integration, and content creation. You have demonstrated ability to effectively partner with product planners and managers, program managers and development team members to shepherd end to end experiences from concept to ship. You have experience in designing payment systems and creating partnerships with content providers and application developers. You have demonstrable experience in designing experiences with multiple input modalities. You are a great creator, collaborator, communicator, and coach.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create world-class, user-centered designs incorporating business requirements, product learnings, customer feedback, and user research

  • Effectively communicate with developers through implementation phase to realize design vision

  • Lead and continue to build a strong, successful design team

  • Communicate, document, and represent design direction to team members, senior management, and key stakeholders

  • Expertly craft documentation to represent the team’s vision around user experience, including storyboards, schematics, style guides, movies, PPTs and prototypes

  • Ensure the experience vision is driven by a well-defined nucleus of user needs, tasks, marketing, and business requirements

  • Direct and develop information architecture, wire frames and software UI

  • Work with design, development, and program management teams to ensure interaction and visual designs communicate and function successfully for varying technical and performance specifications

  • Work with user researchers to coordinate testing efforts, interpret test results, and incorporate results into design efforts

  • The ideal candidate will be an influential leader, capable of working with a diverse group of senior leaders with varying styles.

  • Build world-class, user-centered designs incorporating business requirements, product learnings, customer feedback, and user research

  • Develop conceptual diagrams, information architecture diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes

  • Participate in user research, testing and product discovery

  • Communicate design work and negotiate strategic direction with peers, researchers, design leaders, product partners and executives

  • Leadership – self-starter and an active listener and collaborator who values the opinions of others but can also drive consensus towards simple solutions that meet user and business needs gracefully

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Design Team leadership

  • Mobile design expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of experience as an interaction designer, product designer, or similar role

  • A portfolio that showcases relevant design projects and includes your process, design explorations and final work

  • Able to understand detail and find radically simple solutions that delight users

  • Experience with Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, Invision or equivalents

  • Experience partnering with product and developers to deliver great experiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a design-related field

  • Experience designing for small businesses, financial products or with sophisticated information sets

  • Experience crafting large scale information architectures

  • Experience crafting pattern libraries for sophisticated interactions
