We are looking for a Sr. Project Engineer, Automation to join our team. 

Responsibilities:

Expert understanding of conveyors, tooling, and equipment. 

Design automated material handling solutions to establish new and improved existing material flows throughout the facility. The design includes material arrival at docks, delivery to line-side locations, material transport between internal lines, buffer/storage systems, robotic material handling solutions. Solutions will handle a large variety of products such as small to mid-sized items in corrugate, small to mid-sized luxury items as well as pallets/boxes/trays, individual envelopes.

Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with 3rd parties and internal partners on system build, integration, and testing:

  • Develop analytical models to establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria

  • Responsible for specifying equipment in form of project specifications and requirements

  • Using outside partners for solution development and design

  • Lead the overall layout and system design process

  • Support and provide inputs in the modeling and simulation of individual technologies and entire systems

Technical Project Management and implementation:

  • Manage budget, timeline, and scope

  • Communication with internal and external partners and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities

  • Support troubleshooting during installation and start-up

  • Smooth handoff to operations at Operations Facilities

  • Engineer facility, equipment layouts, staffing requirements, processes, and flows

  • Ability to review and implement process changes into a facility’s operation

  • Able to revise workforce assignments to reflect process and/or element changes

  • Review/development/implement/ operator and station optimization

  • Identify facility upfits and equipment requirements

  • Work with functional support groups to develop and prepare solutions

  • Work with technical writers to prepare perspective proposals, present solutions to Ops leadership

  • Support operational and process improvement projects for current operations as needed

  • Experience with facility capacity impacts such as line speed changes, volume modifications, throughput initiatives and platform variant implementations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)

  • 7+ years of practical automated material handling and process equipment design experience in industries such as automotive, consumer goods/food and beverage manufacturing, distribution, and semi-conductor

  • A passion to work with automation equipment and design processes around it

  • Ability to lead a project from feasibility through to installation and hand-over while working in a close-knit, team environment.

  • Must understand the integration of equipment design into existing or new systems.

  • Values people, ethics, commitment, fun and an engaging culture.

  • Knowledge of and experience with material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty.

  • Highly developed ability to speak and write effectively at all organizational levels.

  • Position will offer unique and complex engineering challenges that require persistence, innovative thinking, and a positive attitude

  • Examples of ability to move a company from low volume into higher volume scales of production

  • Travel: 10-20%

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office

  • Microsoft Project

  • Pro Planner (not required but is a plus)

  • AutoCAD

  • Other: MS Access and AutoCAD experience is a plus
