Senior DevOps Engineer

Join our Kijiji Canada Site Operations team and work with one of Canada's top internet properties.

We are primarily responsible for Kijiji Canada but also work very closely with other site operation teams that support our IaaS cloud and our sister properties across the world. Members of our team are often given the opportunity to move between groups and our team often collaborates with other eBay SiteOps teams around the world. We are actively involved with the open source community and seek to contribute as much as we can.

Our technology stack and challenges:

Our core site fundamentally runs on a Linux, Tomcat, MySQL, Prometheus, ELK stack, and our entire environment is described as code and managed by Puppet and Ansible.  We also make use of other technologies such as Artemis and redis in various high-load mission critical use cases, along with Elastic Search where we can.   


You are:

an experienced Web Engineer who has worked recently on large sites that make heavy use of configuration management (preferably Puppet and/or Ansible) and where everything is clustered and multiple active datacenters are in operation.

a team player and understand that everything we do needs to be understood and supported by the team.  You know the difference between a fix and solution and loose sleep when you feel like too many skeletons are being left in the closet.

You are onboard with the way we work:

Highly focused on adopting lean and agile development practices to Site Operations. 
Constantly looking for ways to automate, and develop systems to ensure that our work delivers quick and apparent value.
Working together most of the time.

You can quickly become productive in meeting our current objectives: 

Bringing our H/A from good to great by implementing things like a Chaos Monkey and figuring out crafty, automated solutions around split brains.
Support the developers in R&D sessions and consult with Operation specific knowledge (DevOps)
Continuous improvement of our lean processes
Understanding which new Data stores to use, how to best use them, and how to not use too many of them.

For those that need a list of skills:

Strong command over one more scripting languages.
Experience in the Administration of large environments (>300 servers) that includes MySQL clusters and NoSQL clusters.
Experience with configuration management systems, i.e. Puppet, Ansible, SaltStack
Proven communication skills
Can you draw pictures to explain your ideas?
Strong desire to continuously learn, adapt and improve
Experience working in larger teams (>5 people) who manage a wide verity of technologies.
